White Sox Game Of "Hot Potato" Leads To Inside-The-Park Home Run For Tigers

Last night in the Tigers-White Sox game, Detroit second baseman Hernan Perez smacked a shot into the left-center gap.

As the ball rolled to the wall, center fielder Alejandro De Aza closed in on it, but at the last second left fielder Dayan Viciedo cut him off to make the play.

Unfortunately, that play never happened.

Instead, Viciedo fumbled the ball three times…

And then threw it to no one, allowing Perez to score. It was marked as a triple and an error, but it was really more like a double and then a demonstration of total indifference and incompetence.

And that's how baseball is played in Chicago, everybody.

Emma Miles is coming down the home stretch!!

I finished the motif area and now have to finish the border, yea!!  I hope to get a lot of stitching in this week because after that I probably won't have much stitching time for several weeks.  I wish I thought I could finish it up this week, but I really think it will take longer.  Still, it's nice to see the whole piece coming together and I haven't minded working on the border areas.  Sorry for the bumpy picture, I didn't want to take it off the scroll rods.Lynn in Lancaster PA

Corpus Christi Explosion Destroys Home, Leaves Two Critically Injured, A Corpus Christi explosion left three people injured and caused damage as far as three blocks away after a home suddenly exploded.The incident happened Friday morning, when a house on Holmes Drive suddenly burst into flames. Firefighters responded to a call at close to 5:30 am, finding fire coming from the center of the structure and the roof blown away.Corpus Christi Fire Chief Andy Cardiel said fire investigators are looking into the cause of the blast, and have called on the gas department to see if there may have been a leak. Utility workers cut off gas to the home so firefighters could battle the blaze.In fighting the blaze fire crews also had to open up two transformers, leaving about 20 homes without power.“As a safety precaution power in that area is off as the fire department investigates the source of the explosion,” said Andy Heines, AEP Texas spokesman. “As of 11:30 a.m. we’ve been told because of the investigation, power to those homes may not be restored until Saturday or Sunday.”The cause of the Corpus Christi explosion is still under investigation.“It’s going to be way too early to determine what a cause is at this point,” Cardiel noted.Witnesses say the neighborhood was suddenly rocked by a blast, and ran to the scene to find the house already destroyed.“The house had exploded. All the walls were down. The roof was already on the ground,” said Mike Obenhaus, who was at a restaurant nearby when the explosion occurred. “We saved a little boy, a little girl, a mom and dad. Then the adjacent house started catching fire.”Three people were injured in the Corpus Christi explosion, two critically. While the fire and damage spread through the neighborhood, fire department officials think all three victims were inside the house when it exploded.Even after the Corpus Christi explosion subsided and firefighters put out the last of the flames, heavy smoke still rose up from the home and remained visible for miles.

Bosch Unveils $450 Home EV Charging Unit

powermax-ev-chargerMaking the switch from gas-powered cars to electric vehicles is neither cheap nor easy, and one limiting factor has been the cost of home charging units. Even the cheapest units cost around $1,000 without installation costs factored in, but the new Powermax EV Charger from Bosch carries a price tag of just $450, and claims to recharged EVs twice as fast as older units.Sounds too good to be true, right? But Bosch has put a lot of time, money, and effort into developing an affordable home EV charger, and the 240-volt Powermax is the fruit of those labors. Available as either a 16 amp model with a 12-foot cord, or a 30 amp version with a 25 foot-long cord, and Bosch says it was able to lower the price by making the charging cords shorter (for those that don’t know, wiring is VERY expensive).While a free home evaluation is available, installation is of course extra. But with EV charging units coming down in cost, there is a good chance that they will start becoming more common place, and perhaps even standard on newer homes. Bosch’s claim that it will charge an EV battery twice as fast other 240-volt Level 2 EV chargers hasn’t been put to the test yet, but that would also make it appealing to the budget EV enthusiast.Will you be adding an EV charger to your home anytime soon?

A soldier's life: earth is our camp and we're homesick for home

What was life for a soldier during the Civil War in camp? Authors Brooke C. Stoddard and Daniel P. Murphy, Ph.D tell us-Soldiers in the Civil War did not see battle every day, or even every week. Most were inactive about 75 percent of the time, thanks to the hurry-up-and-wait nature of warfare. During these down periods, the typical day started at 5 A.M. during the spring and summer months and 6 A.M. during the fall and winter. Soldiers were awakened by reveille, roll call was taken by the first sergeant, and then everyone sat down to breakfast.Much of a soldier's life is waiting around for ordersDuring the rest of the day, soldiers engaged in as many as five two-hour drill sessions on weaponry or maneuvers. Most soldiers found these drills extremely boring and tedious; they wanted to fight, not practice, though they realized the drills could mean the difference between life and death when fighting did occur.Soldiers also cleaned and readied the camp, built roads, dug latrines, gathered wood for cooking and heating, and sometimes foraged for food to supplement their meals. Letters from home kept them going.[They engaged in] recreation to help them while away the rest of the hours. Those who were able wrote long letters home or read books, magazines, and newspapers when they could get them. Others played cards or engaged in various sports, such as baseball, boxing, and cockfighting.Of all the hardships soldiers faced in camp, homesickness was probably the most rampant and difficult to cure. While waiting for orders, we go to work, have leisure, engage in drills and practice (corporate worship, study, and prayer). We live for letters from home, which of course is the bible.We're moms, dads, youths, and regular people, living a Christian life ... living in camp, joshing with other soldiers, cleaning our armor and longing for home, until called upon to launch into action. And do you know what that action is?Standing.Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. (Ephesians 6:13)Praying. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. (2 Corinthians 10:4)Resisting.Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)We are not loudly pronouncing binding and loosing in Jesus's name in public places. We do not exorcise demons from every bush. We do not prayer walk a location to assess the enemy's capability. We do not map out the demonic strongholds in a place and gather to scream prophecies at them.We pray, stand, and resist. We do this because our High Commander has won the battle. The battle is His.Yes, earth is our camp and sometimes camp life is boring. Sometimes there is a long time between skirmishes and sometimes soldiers enter skirmishes that last a long time. It is an enduring and tiring war, outlasting our lifetimes, unless the Lord comes and raptures us. As President Abraham Lincoln said at the conclusion of the United States Civil War- Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.Read that with understanding that when Lincoln says 'nation' we understand that nation to be the kingdom of God. Understand the soldiers who died and are buried here precede us in the long battle. And indeed, the world as Lincoln says, does not like what we do but they cannot ignore it and cannot forget it. We have a great task, and it is our measure of devotion to our Commander that these soldiers who went on before us have not died in vain and that one day, the kingdom of Jesus shall not perish from the earth but shall endure forever.
