BNC Bancorp swapping preferred stock for debt

The parent company of Bank of North Carolina said Friday that it'll swap out the preferred stock left over from the auction of its federal bailout investment for debt.In August, the U.S. Treasury sold off the preferred stock it held in BNC Bancorp at a public auction, moving the $31.3 million investment for $28.4 million. The government reported making a profit on the bank overall when dividend payments were included.BNC said Friday it will redeem the preferred stock from its new owner at its full price, using cash on hand and a $30 million loan from Georgia-based Synovus Bank.BNC's Chief Operating Officer Richard D. Callicutt said in a statement that regulators' approval of this transaction is a testament to the bank's financial strength.

Stats: The WCHA Until Now

Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier

On January 3, 2011, the Vikings and Leslie Frazier reached an agreement making him the permanent head coach. In his first season as head coach, the rebuilding Vikings went 3–13, their worst season since 1984. On December 5, 2011, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf stated Frazier would return in 2012. In Frazier's second full year as head coach, the Vikings improved to 10-6, making the playoffs. The biggest single-season turn around in Vikings history resulted in Leslie Frazier finishing fourth in voting for the NFL Coach of the Year Award and the Vikings exercising their fourth year team option to keep Frazier under contract through 2014.

Steelers add to backfield

The Steelers passed on Eddie Lacy and Montee Ball, among others, to take running back Le'Veon Bell in the second round of the draft.While some might question the move - and I didn't have Bell on my second-round list - I found that Lacy had injury issues that caused some concern and the Steelers just liked Bell more than Ball.As you all know, I like Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's draft preview guides. McGinn had Bell rated as the third-best back in this draft, with scouts saying he had the look of a feature back.Will that be the case? We don't know.But what we do know is that Bell carried the ball 382 times last season for a team in which he was the entire offense and did not break down. He also catches the ball out of the backfield well.And at 6-1, 230 pounds, he ran a 4.57 40 and had the fastest three-cone drill among running backs at the combine.OK, that makes some sense.Bell doesn't always run like a big man - he doesn't look for contact like Isaac Redman. But that's not always a bad thing either, especially when you'd like to see him stay healthy in the NFL.The Steelers passed on some good talent to take Bell, including Arthur Brown, D.J. Swearinger and Margus Hunt, three players I think could be stars in the NFL.Bell had better become the player the Steelers think he will be - Tood Haley compared him to Eddie George - for this one not to bite them in the behind in the future. Brown went to Baltimore, while Hunt went to Cincinnati.If those two players turn into stars and Bell does not, the Steelers will be reminded of that four times per season.@ In the third round, the Steelers added a dynamic receiver in Markus Wheaton of Oregon State.Wheaton finished as Oregon State's all-time leading receiver with 227 career catches. The school produced both Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, so it's not a joke record - though Johnson and Houshmandzadeh were there at the same time.He's also got speed to burn. He ran a 4.45 at the combine but says he can run in the 4.3 range. If he can run somewhere in the middle of that, say a 4.37, he's plenty fast enough to help this team replace Mike Wallace.Wheaton is also far more polished than some of the other receivers that went ahead of him. It was a solid pick.@ The draft wraps up today. Look for the Steelers to address the safety position in the fourth round - Phillip Thomas of Fresno perhaps - and then add depth on the offensive line, cornerback and inside linebacker as well.Wheaton's teammate Jordan Poyer would be a possibility in the fourth round at cornerback - he actually returned punts and kicks ahead of Wheaton at the school - as would William & Mary corner B.W. Webb, whom the Steelers had in for a visit.One late round safety to consider is California University's Rontez Miles, a player the Steelers are very familiar with and like.

Bring the Honey Badger to Cincinnati

Since as long as I can remember rooting for the Bengals, the have been searching for a play maker on defense. A dynamic difference maker who can change the momentum of a gave around in half a second, and can get the crowd going wild with a huge hit or interception return for a touchdown. Basically they have needed an Ed Reed, a Charles Woodson, or a Troy Polamalu. Well there have been many names to wear the stripes that gave us hope they could be just what we are looking for. Players like Jonathan Joseph, Odell Thurman, Keith Rivers and Rey Maualuga. While some of those guys had success in the orange and black, none of them lived up to the billing of the X-factor that the team and fans wanted. Well now, that player is out there in the draft, and the Bengals should pounce on him while they can. He is a player known for being a ball-hawk and a dynamic return man as well as laying big hits on quarterbacks and receivers alike. He is the definition of a play maker.His name is, The Honey Badger.You may know him better as Tyrann Mathieu, the LSU corner back who terrorized the SEC for three years and wreaked havoc on the most talented offenses in the nation. Not to mention his ridiculous ability as a punt and kickoff returner and you have the recipe for one hell of a player in the NFL. While he has been looked down upon for being kicked off the LSU squad after failed drug tests, lets not act like he murdered someone. He is a kid who made a mistake, and if Cincinnati can keep Pacman Jones in check then taming the Honey Badger will be a walk in the park for this coaching staff. He is likely to slip in the draft because of his off field issues and the Bengals would be crazy not to jump at the chance to draft Mathieu. The guy is an absolute monster and a terror in the open field once he gets the ball. Take a look at his highlight reel form LSU which is TEN minutes long:You're telling me you wouldn't love to see that guy in orange and black on Sundays? Yeah right. If the Bengals pass on this guy, it will come back to haunt them for years to come. He is fast as anyone on the gridiron and can make a spectacular play out of thin air. He will grow up and the staff will keep him under control like they have done with so many others who have come to Cincinnati with checkered pasts and when he gets on the field he will immediately be a difference maker. He would fit right in with a stacked defense with the likes of Geno Atkins, Leon Hall, Pacman Jones and Carlos Dunlap.Mark my words, this kid will be on a mission to shut up every single one of his critics and I have no doubts that he will. If this beast ends up playing in Paul Brown stadium, may god have mercy on the rest of the AFC north. Make it happen Marvin.  Bring the Honey Badger to Cincinnati.

However, almost always and for everything there is a solution. To add Firefox Auto Shutdown, just download it and then install the application manually. Go to the Firefox menu and click Add-ons (or February from the keyboard CTRL SHIFT A). Then click Install Add-on From File, navigate to the folder where you download the application and install it.Once Firefox is closed and opened again, in the bottom right corner of the window will see emissions Shutdown option, which can be programmed every time you want to turn off automatically after the computer downloads.

A soldier's life: earth is our camp and we're homesick for home

What was life for a soldier during the Civil War in camp? Authors Brooke C. Stoddard and Daniel P. Murphy, Ph.D tell us-Soldiers in the Civil War did not see battle every day, or even every week. Most were inactive about 75 percent of the time, thanks to the hurry-up-and-wait nature of warfare. During these down periods, the typical day started at 5 A.M. during the spring and summer months and 6 A.M. during the fall and winter. Soldiers were awakened by reveille, roll call was taken by the first sergeant, and then everyone sat down to breakfast.Much of a soldier's life is waiting around for ordersDuring the rest of the day, soldiers engaged in as many as five two-hour drill sessions on weaponry or maneuvers. Most soldiers found these drills extremely boring and tedious; they wanted to fight, not practice, though they realized the drills could mean the difference between life and death when fighting did occur.Soldiers also cleaned and readied the camp, built roads, dug latrines, gathered wood for cooking and heating, and sometimes foraged for food to supplement their meals. Letters from home kept them going.[They engaged in] recreation to help them while away the rest of the hours. Those who were able wrote long letters home or read books, magazines, and newspapers when they could get them. Others played cards or engaged in various sports, such as baseball, boxing, and cockfighting.Of all the hardships soldiers faced in camp, homesickness was probably the most rampant and difficult to cure. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. (2 Corinthians 10:4)Resisting.Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)We are not loudly pronouncing binding and loosing in Jesus's name in public places. We do not exorcise demons from every bush. We do not prayer walk a location to assess the enemy's capability. We do not map out the demonic strongholds in a place and gather to scream prophecies at them.We pray, stand, and resist. We do this because our High Commander has won the battle. The battle is His.Yes, earth is our camp and sometimes camp life is boring. Sometimes there is a long time between skirmishes and sometimes soldiers enter skirmishes that last a long time. It is an enduring and tiring war, outlasting our lifetimes, unless the Lord comes and raptures us. As President Abraham Lincoln said at the conclusion of the United States Civil War- Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. I Feel Bad for Manti Te'o

Getty ImagesToday is not the worst day in Manti Te'o's life, but it's clearly one of his lowest points. Most NFL players are not drafted in the first round, but for Te'o to be projected as a 1st round contender, and then witness that status vaporize in one night can't be easy for him.The national media clearly influenced the NFL teams' decisions Thursday night, and the fake girlfriend controversy unfortunately did not die that night either; it's doubtful that the Fighting Irish's loss to Alabama was the sole factor in the teams' decision to pass up Te'o. Usually teams' ignore fans' opinions on which players to pick, but the public's negative view of Te'o must have also played a role; weeks prior to NFL Draft Night, ESPN and other sports networks released (their opinion) polls showing an estimated 70% disapproval rating from NFL fans to the idea of their favorite teams drafting Te'o in the debut round. Lennay Kekua is the first fictional character to turn the public against a once-popular college player. For the St. Louis Rams, their draft picks were at least objective. Tavon Austin and Alec Ogletree were Jeff Fisher's choices for the 1st round, proving the dominance of the SEC. While Te'o is versatile, Alec Ogletree did perform better against Alabama than Te'o did, so Ogletree was probably viewed as the safer choice.Back to Manti Te'o, his draft is now uncertain. The 2nd round is reportedly is his best bet for a draft selection, with the Detroit Lions being the only mentioned team with interest in him, though the Baltimore Ravens have also expressed interest in him. But just because these two teams have stated interest in him, that does translate into guaranteed draft selection. Basically, if Te'o is not drafted in the second and third rounds, his prospects of being drafted at all become dismal. It's very unlikely that Te'o will be shut out all together in the NFL Draft, but it is possible.If Te'o is not drafted at all, his career can still be salvaged. Free agency has not ended, and teams tend to have more money for free agency than the draft. So if Te'o is passed up, teams will have the option to offer him their contracts. He would then choose from those offers and be able to play in the upcoming season. Manti Te'o would not be the first linebacker to be in this situation, as Brian Banks was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent.Manti Te'o has had a tough first half of this year, but his NFL career still has huge potential. It will just take longer than expected for him to reach the light at the end of the social-media-saturated tunnel.
